The Project
The Urban Land Institute conducted a Building Healthy Places Workshop in Denver’s Sunnyside neighborhood in September 2018 focusing on the future redevelopment of Denver Housing Authority’s Quigg Newton Homes,in order to accomplish DHA’s long-term goals of increasing the density of affordable housing on the site while enhancing the community’s health and well-being.
Our Role
While at the City of Denver, Gretchen and the volunteer team of industry experts worked with community leaders to examine potential ways to redevelop Quigg Newton Homes to benefit community health through active transportation, access to healthy food, social cohesion, affordable housing, economic development, improved public safety, and outdoor recreation. Gretchen presented local health data and evidence-based best practices to improve health and equity.
