The Project

The Globeville and Elyria Swansea neighborhoods are two of Denver’s oldest and most historic neighborhoods and also some of the most historically underinvested.  In 2014 Globeville and Elyria Swansea undertook their first Neighborhood Plans in over 30 years.  Denver City Council prioritized and funded the first-ever Health Impact Assessment to understand how historic conditions had shaped residents’ health.  The Health Impact Assessment offered the opportunity to integrate health into community planning and design to shape the way residents live, learn, work, and play – and in turn improve their health.

Our Role

While at the City of Denver, Gretchen led and managed the Health Impact Assessment, including extensive community engagement, data analysis and cross-sector collaboration amongst City departments and community organizations to improve residents’ health in the areas of environmental quality, connectivity and mobility, access to goods and services, and community safety.
