The Project
Blue Zones Project is a community well-being improvement initiative designed to transform local environments for healthier living options. Blue Zones are areas around the world where people live measurably longer lives with lower rates of chronic disease and a higher quality of life through natural movement, eating wisely, a sense of purpose, and social connections. These communities are shown to improve health and wellbeing, reduce healthcare costs and increase civic engagement.
Our Role
Equity Policy Solutions provided technical assistance including data analysis and recommendations for measuring outcomes for built environment and health improvements in Petaluma, CA as they worked to become a Certified Blue Zone. We recommended policy and environmental changes for active transportation, park activation, placemaking, wayfinding, walkability, and expansion of housing choice and affordability.
